PPR Reveals New Album Cover and Track List

So here it is. Impressive, right? So stoked to finally be getting a look at this thing. When a band decides to call their album The Robot Destroyer, no, check that, when a band decides to compose a 23-minute song suite and call it The Robot Destroyer, just a wee bit of curiosity begins to set in. It’s natural. You have both the promise of a robot(s) and destruction. Presumably chaos and violence are involved. All of which rule pretty hard. But what does the thing actually look like? That’s the burning question. Now I know. Created by artist Jason Rhodes, the RD is sinister and menacing. But that much I already figured. What I didn’t anticipate were the rad moon boots. Schweet.

To go along with that sick bit of sci-fi artistry, PPR have also been kind enough to provide us with the track list. What a swell bunch of fellas. No word yet on a release date. We’re still hashing out te details, but it shouldn’t be long. This summer for sure. Stay tuned.

Now Streaming: Partisan – ‘The Partisan’

In 2002, an ambitious young band going by the name of Partisan entered Zero Return Studios in their hometown of Atlanta and over the course of a weekend recorded nine tracks that—for all intents and purposes—should have made up their debut album, The Partisan. But aside from a handful of hard to find CD-Rs, the record never saw the light of day. Soon after the sessions were completed, founding bassist Ryan Mahan took a year off to study in the UK, and the band decided to take a break. When he returned, the original songs were abandoned in favor of new material that Mahan had begun to compose while he was away—songs that would eventually grow to form the bulk of the band’s critically acclaimed debut, The Gothic and the Gospel. As guitarist Lee Tesche explains it:

It was one of those things that just happened. As an artist you are continually looking forward, exploring new ideas. I rarely revisit a record after I finish it. It’s a document of that particular place in time. Once we started working on new material we were excited about that, because we were making another huge step artistically. This record became a victim of circumstance.

So here it is finally after eight long years. If you don’t think this album slays, if you can’t recognize it’s considerable power and unique vision, then you have no soul and we’re done with you. Even eight years can’t obscure its pulsing vitality or quell its incendiary spirit; it’s as thoughtful and uncompromising as the day it was recorded. Equal parts acerbic punk rock diatribe and excursionary art-rock exploration, The Partisan is a document of a young band tinkering with and developing their considerable arsenal—blistering guitar riffs, swinging Latin rhythms and Afrobeat funk, instrumental experimentation, epic post-rock explosions. It’s certainly a lot to take in, but fortune has never favored the meek.

Much thanks and praise goes the mighty Latest Disgrace for letting us post this video to our blog. We should really be more vigilant about videoing performances ourselves. If anyone out there is interested in documenting shows and eventss for our label, please contact us. In the meantime, enjoy this video of Lakehurst is Burning performing “Stay Where You Are Tonight” a couple of weeks ago at Vinyl. Be sure not to miss the beginning when guitarist Chris Cudzilo gets on the mic for the first time ever. He seems a little stunned initially, but is able to come through in the clutch. This is history in the making, people.

What can we say that hasn’t been said before? Lakehurst is Burning fucking rawk and everyone in Atlanta and beyond needs to step up and recognize. Seems pretty straightforward and easy to remember, doesn’t it? You betcha.

The Lakehurst is Burning video shoot for “Captain, This is Crazy” went pretty smoothly, with only a few hiccups here and there. There’s a shit ton of footage to comb through, and we have begun the long process of filtering out the good from the bad. It’s difficult to say at this point what the final product is going to look like but rest assured it will tilt solidly towards the totally badass side of the spectrum. Stay tuned for more news as it becomes available.

In the meantime, here are some pics of the guys working it during the video. Yeah, we green screened pretty much everything. That means some serious CGI magic is going to take place. Aliens, lasers, spaceships, dragons, exotic interplanetary locales—it’s all on the table, people.

It’s a sad day in music when label honchos have to miss their only band’s CD release party. Thinking about it makes me want to curl up on the couch and stuff a half gallon of vanilla down my throat. Maybe shed a tear or two. Luckily for us, however, one very cool, very technologically adept fan captured some footage from the show and posted it to YouTube. It’s like a little rainbow sent to comfort us in our moment of darkness. Can we get three cheers for industrious fans? Yes we can!

The debut EP from Atlanta post-hardcore rockers Lakehurst is Burning (ex-The Paper Champions, Dade County Resistance) is finally out and available for purchase in our online store.
